'A TrueTest of Character'
Hollywood. It's not just a city located in the heart of Los Angeles; it's a place where young talent may come to make their dreams a reality. Not many cities or places in the world can be described that way. Although it is an incredibly tough road, aspiring actors and actresses work extremely hard to balance their day jobs with acting classes. They network at auditions and study scripts at their castings-all in hopes for a call back. But what fascinates us the most is their constant determination, incredible passion, and focus towards their one main goal... to become the next big star. For this reason, we created a series of photography portraits called 'A True Test of Character'. Main Studio- Culver City:
The James and James primary studio consists of 1500 square feet with an option of a 2500+ studio available when larger projects are booked. Both spaces are centrally located in Culver City-- across from the Helm's Bakery and just down the street from Sony. Each studio includes: table sets, backgrounds, lighting, grip, complete tech stations for digital captures or motion, wireless internet, etc.
Portable Studio:
A portable studio is available when shooting on-location. Location scouting and permit services are also available if shooting in the Los Angeles area. Bruce and Jennifer are willing to travel and shoot anywhere. Recent locations have included: Paris, Nice, Rome, New York City, Michigan, New Jersey, Oregon, Washington, Philadelphia, etc.
Props and Surfaces:
Many different in-house surfaces and props are available for client use on the day of the photo shoot at no extra charge. The surfaces include: finished and weathered woods, slabs of marble, handmade papers, card stock, tablecloths, runners, fabrics, napkins, etc. Some of the props available include: plates, trays, cake stands, bakeware, serving platters, cups, bowls, glasses, silverware, etc. A Prop Stylist may also be hired to provide clients with options that pertain to individual layouts or unique set design.
Casting and Talent:
Castings can be held at the Main Studio. A web-gallery of photos or motion clips can be posted for client review. General Model Releases (for both Minors and Adults, still or motion) are available if needed.
Shoot Days:
Bruce and Jennifer, along with the entire James and James crew, welcomes clients to attend the photo shoot to give feedback during the actual shoot day. Images can be placed in approved layouts during the shoot and can be e-mailed to other parties for approval. Often clients who are unable to attend the shoot, communicate via phone and/or e-mail throughout the creative process. Breakfast is available upon client arrival. Special coffee or tea requests are always welcomed. For lunch, clients can browse through a large selection of restaurant menus. This allows for special diets and individual preferences to be met.
Retouching, Post and Motion:
Full retouching and post-production services are available that include: color correcting, compositing, pathing, cmyk conversions, sizing and ftp uploads. Final Cut Pro is used for working with motion clips.

With model Zdenka Sutton, Bruce James photographed a brand concept with a series of portraits that corresponded with the high-end alcohol Stolichnaya. With Zdenka being dressed in white faux fur, this sophistication was a perfect marriage for product and cocktail shots of the famous Russian Vodka. This photographic collection was launched in a beverage book called "Premium Blend' in 2011 where she became the feature in one of the ten distinct chapters. Nadia Lanfranconi's Italian Style is a photographic character study of Italian actress, Nadia Lanfranconi. Initially, the artwork was created to be included as one of the ten chapters in our high-end alcohol and spirits book called 'Premium Blend'. Her sexy portrait complimented the seductiveness of the Italian beverage, Fernet Branca. However, once the final image was selected for that single purpose, we re-examined the work to build a small collection of portraits that showcased her personality and character. With a distinct direction of key light coming from the top, the lighting created the perfect mood for Nadia to take direction while also letting her true character shine through. We had the pleasure of meeting actress, Marielle Jaffe, on the set of "Locked Away" and felt that she would be the perfect model in a chapter we were shooting for our high-end beverage and spirits book called 'Premium Blend'. The photo shoot was an immediate success for the chapter featuring Bacardi Razz. Not long after our work was completed, Marielle was also casted to play the character of Olivia Morris in the movie, "Scream 4". Marielle recently announced that she is currently on set shooting "What About Love" with the famed Sharon Stone and Andy Garcia. We are not only proud of a great experience and photo shoot that we had with the lovely Marielle Jaffe, but also of her continued success in her acting career. 'Take Two' is a deeper exploration into our project with John Kilnar and Britt Nilsson 'Union Jack/Take One'.
